Railway Mishap: Ten Trucks Derailed
[Per Press Association. Copyright .] •TIMARU, This Day.
When ten trucks of an Oamaru to Timaru mixed train left the main line about a mile and a half north of the Makikihi station at 10.30 yesterday morning, the line was blocked for some hours.
The affected waggons were near the centre of the train, and fortunately did not interfere with the engine or the passenger carriages. Apparently the derailment was caused by a broken axle of one waggon which was
carrying coal. The track was damaged for 50 yards, the rails being twisted and bent, and many sleepers being dislodged. The ironwork of some of the waggons was considerably buckled, while the woodwork of others was smashed.
