Hinemoa is Complete Wreck at Matauri Bay

Little remains of the fishing launch Hinemoa, which went ashore on the Poor Knights Islands recently. = Buffeted by heavy waves, the launch has drifted to the beach at Matauri Bay, where is now lies a total wreck.

When the boat first arrived at Matauri Bay, 100 miles, from the Poor Knights, it appeared to be in a sound condition, and it was thought that salvage operations could be carried out. However, hopes of salvage were shattered when heavy seas, following a north-east windj battered the vessel, the hull of which was lying on an exposed beach. Mr J. Segar, of Auckland, owner of the vessel, does not think it is worth salvaging, but, on his instructions, the vessel is being stripped of everything of value that can be saved.

No attempt is to be made to shift the hull, which is lying on its side on the beach. .
