No Intention to Amend Gaming Act
-MR SAVAGE [Special to “Northern Advocate”] WELLINGTON, This Day.
Declaring that there was no inten-j tion on the part of the Government to introduce any legislation that would tend not only to divide the people of the Dominion, but would also tend to divide the Government’s own supporters, the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, appeared to indicate in an interview, states “The Standard,” that there was no likelihood of the Government amending the Gaming Act to provide for a State lottery,, the licensing of bookmakers, a double totalisator, telegraphing of bets to the totalisator, or the publication of dividends. Mr. Savage said that no legislation would be introduced that was of a contentious nature, and which would tend not only to divide the people of the country, but also file Governmenl supporters. He said his statement made some time ago that the question of establishing a State lottery was not likely to be considered by the Government still stood.
