’Change More Active

Business was more active on the Auckland Stock Exchange this morning, and a good list of sales was recorded at the first call, generally at steady values. Activity in Mt. Morgans was one of the features of the morning, A single buyer took three parcels offered at 11/6, and offered the same price for more, but sellers moved up to 11/8. Otherwise, mining shares were practically unchanged. Australian industrials were fairly active, Tooth’s Breweries, British Tobaccos and Broken Hill Proprietary selling unchanged, while Colonial Sugars were a fraction easier. Buyers came in at £2 7/- for Electrolytic Zincs, ordinary, and at £2 10/- for the preferences, sellers asking 3/more in both cases. (

Kaiapoi Woollens, with sales at 11/-, showed an easing on recent quotations, although the price was 6d above that ruling at the last sale early in February.

Bank shares and Government stocks were firm, but in the insurance section there was a weaker tone. South British were marked down 6d on both sides, to buyers at £2 3/6, and sellers £2 4/-, while New Zealands had unsupported sellers at £2 13/-. Sales completed at the noon call today were:—Commercial Bank, 16/5; Bank of New South Wales, £3O 2/6; Bank of New Zealand, £ 1 18/9; South British, £2 3/6. Stock, March, 39-43, 3i per cent., £99 12/6.
