Hikurangi’s Farewell To Archbishop Averil

At the Anglican Church. Hikurangi, on Sunday evening, a farewell to Archbishop Averill was tendered on behalf of his parishioners by the Rev. H. Heaslip. More Jian 200 people were present. “Wo cannoi think of His Grace without realising that he is a great leader and witness among men,” said Mr Heaslip. “He has steered the ship of the Church through very turbulent waters —through the rapids of a great transi-

tional age—and all realise that ■ the Church could have had no better captain. Wherever the Archbishop has spoken he has been listened to by all men of goodwill—not only by Anglicans but all denominations.

“Always quick to criticise where necessary, his life and example have always been positive. One soon tires of criticism but never of the example of a positive life. “It is true of him what Spurgeon said of Gladstone: ‘A man who ever lived in the King’s palace and saw much of the King’s face.’ “Many are the people who have been strengthened by his faith—a faith that has removed mountains. Many are the people who have been helped by His eloquence to take up the torch

and show in their own lives the light of God.

"T think ho is a man good to think about, good to hear, and, not least, good to look upon, for his life has been lived in trying to serve God and hfs fellow men, and he has done this so successfully because in all things the voice of God has been allowed to drown the voices of the-world.”

At a social function in the parish hall, Mr Heaslip, 'on behalf of the Hikurangi parishioners, presented a pipe to Archbishop Averill.
