Salvation Army

At the Salvation Army last night. Major Canty delivered an impressive address on the importance of fitness bodily, mentally and spiritually. Ho took for his text Second Cor. 6:19. “Ycur body is the temple of the Holy Spirit,” emphasising the danger of ono-sidednoss in cultivating fitness. The complete youth or adult was only complete as the body was fit and a happy dwelling place of mental and spiritual development. There was a danger today of forgetting that the Sabbath Day was made for man, not merely in the

sense of a break in labour and the opportunity for enjoyment and physi-

cal recreation, but also for the growth of the other faculties that were given to us by God, and especially the cultivation of an attitude towards religion that appreciated its power in the development' of character and the shaping of destiny.

Trustees For The Whole Man

He appealed to the youth to realise that they were trustees for the finest development of the whole man, of which bodily fitness was the foundation upon which the highest mental and physical attainments . could be built. He asked them to realise that they were'trustees also of the future race, that New Zealand in the future depended upon the youth of today. If unfitness were to characterise it, there would be in the future a weakness all round that would be of serious limitation of our efficiency.
