Maungatapere Sports Club Flourishing
At the annual meeting of the Maungatapere Sports Club, Mr J. G. Draper, presided over a large and enthusiastic attendance of members.
The annual report and balancesheet showed the affairs of the club to be in a flourishing condition, a substantial profit on the last two meetings having more than offset several deficits sustained during depression
years. After completing ten years in office, the president retired. Election of Officers. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Patron: Mr W. H. Hawken. President: Mr J. H. Morrison. Vice-presidents: Messrs E. E. Hawken and W. H. Gunson. Executive: Messrs H. G. Mooney, J. I. Wilson, junr., S. E. Draffin, A. Jones, A. G. Russell, W. H. Hawken, H. C. Fraser, O. V. Adlam, A. Snow, H. W. Ellis and H. Maugham. Judges: Athletics, Messrs D. G. Morrison, O. V. Adlam and H. Maugham; chopping, Messrs J. I. Wilson, junr., E. Sloane and J. Breslin. Starters: Athletics, Mr H. C. auditor, Mr L. Bell; secretary, Mr F. O. Armstrong. Prospects for Easter Monday. Keen Interest is being taken already regarding the club’s meeting to be held on Easter Monday, when it is confidently expected that the high standard already attained by the club will be raised still higher. A feature of the meeting will be the provincial championships over the following distances: 100, 220, 440 and
880 yards and one mile. Those events, in addition to the usual well-endowed handicap races, should make the athletic section specially attractive. The task of compiling and revising the comprehensive programme will be undertaken by the executive next week. , Great improvements have been made to both the cycling and running tracks, which should be in first-class order for Easter.
