British Steamer Released
(Received 2.30 p.m.)
SHANGHAI, January 30. H.M.S. Birmingham escorted the British steamer St. Vincent de Paul from Tsingtao, where it was held by the Japanese, on the ground that it was attempting to smuggle goods into Haichow. The Japanese did not attempt to prevent its departure. Later, they admitted that there were no munitions on board. Two Norwegian ships were detained on similar allegations.
