Dargaville’s Record Rainfall
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] DARGAVILLE, This Day. “I have never known such a continuous fall of rain in the 18 years 1 have been recording the rainfall for this district,” said the county engineer. Mr S. L. Spanhake, this morning.
The fall for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday was 4.53 inches, and that for the same period ended 9 a.m today, 5.14 inches, making a total foi the two days of 9.67 inches. This is a record. Mr Spanhake said that very little damage had been done. He had made he said, a tour of a portion of the county yesterday. After 30 hours rain it was surprising that Die watei had been absorbed as if the earth had been a sponge. There was very little flooding, except in the major valleys of Awakino, Tangowahine and Kaihu. The Mongonui stream was barely bank j high.
