Save The Soil: Urgent Need

This Day. “The importance of soil conservation is now being realised in Australia, and steps are being taken to conserve soil by afforestation, by limitation of stock on dry pasture areas, and by river control measures that are like those necessary here in New Zealand,’’ said the Director of the Cawthron Institute, Nelson, Sir Theodore Rigg, in an interview yesterday on his return by the Awatea, after attending the recent Science Congress in Canberra.
Already the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research in New Zealand had set up a committee to investigate the problem, said Sir Theodore. The problem should receive the careful consideration here that it had received in Australia.
