(Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, January 29. The Berlin correspondent of “The Times” says that the German Press devotes columns to Barcelona’s fall, but shows a marked unwillingness to comment on the new situation in the Mediterranean created by General Franco’s forces.
Instead, hopes are expressed that the French Prime Minister, M. Daladier, will not miss the opportunity of lessening the tension between France and Italy—presumably by yielding to Italian demands. There is a concerted endeavour in the Paris Press to allay fears of a new crisis. Newspapers generally are not disposed to believe that, the RomeBerlin axis is preparing to launch a joint diplomatic offensive, Berlin correspondents stating that Herr'Hitler is little disposed to be involved in Italian claims'in the Mediterranean.
