Drowned When Surfing
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”l WAIUKU, This Day. While bathing at Maioro Beach on the West Coast, about ten miles, from Waiuku, yesterday afternoon, Mr. Francis Joseph Priest, aged 40, married. with four children, was drowned. Mr, Priest was one of ,a party who was bathing in the surf after lunch. They had waded out into water about three feet deep, when six of them were caught by the undertow, and were being quickly cftried out into the breakers.
Four of them managed to reach the shore, but Mr. Priest, who could not swim, and his son, a boy of about 12, were in difficulties.
The boy was helped In by Mr. C. Malloy, of Waiuku, but in the meantime, before he could be helped, Mr. Priest was swept into the breakers and disappeared. >■
