Fined For Keeping Children From School
Joe Henry was fined 5/- with costs 10/~ in the Magistrate’s Court, Kaitaia, for having failed to send his two children to school without lawful excuse. Mr G. N. Morris, S.M., presided. For not carrying warrants of fitness for motor vehicles, Eddie Berghan, L. Snelling, A. Morice, W. A. Dodds, Sam Fla veil, M. Parent and G. H. Kitchen were each fined- £1 with costs 10/-. Joe Enrich, on a charge of having kept hfs billiard saloon open after hours, was fined £2 with costs 15/-. It was stated by Constable Taylor that the saloon was open at 11.30 p.m., at which-hour men were playing pool. Alfred Farr, who had parked a motor van without lights on Fairburn Road, in an unlighted area of the Kaitaia Town Board district, after dark, was fined 5/- with costs 12/-.
For a similar offence, Isaac Welsh was fined 10/- with costs.
Dick Newton, charged with operating two heavy motor vehicles without heavy traffic licenses, was fined £3 and costs on one charge, and was convicted and discharged on the other.
