j Of unusual interest to residents of ibeth Hikurahgi and Whangarei was the wedding of Evelyn, second daughter cf Mr and Mrs L. Cooke, King Street. Hikurangi, to James, second son of Mr and Mrs A. Penman, Auckland. The ceremony was performed in the Church of England. Hikurangi, at seven o’clock last Monday evening, Rev Harold Heaslip being the officiating Minister, while Mrs Heaslip presided at the organ. The church, which had been beautifully decorated by relatives of the bride, made a lovely setting for the ceremony. The bride, who entered the church-on the arm of her father, looking charming in a gown, of embossed lalTcta cut on French lines with a long lace train and a soft, flowing tulle veil caught to the head with a lace coronet. She carried a sheaf of carnations and maidenhair fern. Miss Jenny Little, chief bridesmaid, was daintily gowned in blue brocaded organdie, also cut on French lines, while Miss Kath Davidson chose a frock of lemon brocaded organdie of similar style. . Both wore organdie haloes and carried sheafs of flowers to tone.

Mrs Cook received the guests wear ing a frock oi navy blue sheer and carrying a bouquet of deep pink cannations, while Mrs Penman wore black crepe-de-chine and her bouquet was of red carnations.

Attractively decorated with blue and lemon streamers, finished with silver bells and stars, the hall was the scene of a function at which happiness, gaiety and goodwill were the keynotes of the evening. Mr Chas Smith, who acted as M.C., kept the proceedings moving at a merry pace, while bright music was furnished by Mr and Mrs W. Print (nee Scylla Calkin), assisted by Messrs J, Laverick and Jim Barber. Streamer and other novelty dances, and Scottish numbers were popular on the programme, while the “Lambeth Walk”, performed for the first time in the hall, was encored again and again. A Monte Carlo competition was won by Miss Winnie Baxter and partner. During the supper interval Mr Smith toasted the bride and bridegroom, who were recipients of a largo array of gifts and numerous congratulatory telegrams. The three-tiered wedding cake, made by Mrs Cooke, dominated the tables.

At midnight the happy couple left for Whangarei en route to Orewa. the bride travelling in a costume of creme gaberdine with navy blouse, hat and shoes.
