Armed Hold-Up Foiled By Garage Attendant

[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] DUNEDIN, This Day.

A daring attempt at an armed holdup at the Safety Parking Service Station in the centre of the city occurred shortly before midnight last night. It was foiled when the night attendant; Mr James Todd, at the station, grappled with the assailant, who escaped. The first warning Mr Todd had of the attack was when he felt a revolver pressed into the small of his back. At the same time he was carefully ordered to “Stick ’em up.” Mr Todd swung round and grappled with his assailant, seizing the revolver by the barrel with his left hand. The assailant pulled the trigger, but the revolver did not go off. After a brief struggle the man wrenched free and dashed off with the revolver still in his possession. Mr Todd received a gash on the back of his hand from the revolver sights. The police were notified immediately, but, in spite of a thorough search, no arrests had been made by 1.30 this morning.
