Temporary Licenses Too Freely Given
Power to grant temporary carriers’ licenses may shortly be withdrawn from post’Offices. At the meeting of the No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority today reference was made to this point by the representative of the Carriers’ Association and also by the Authority, Mr. E. Jr Phelan. “It is: embarassing to hoar of pirating going on and to advise the Transport Department inspector who may travel miles only to find that the carrier has been provided with a temporary license,” commented the president of the association, Mr. W. S. Flower. j Mr. C. Waymouth, secretary of the association, explained that temporary licenses could be purchased from country post offices “as easily as sausages.” i Mr. Phelan remarked that the time "Kist come when licenses would be ranted only through the department’s .. vn offices.
