Councillors Not To Wear Sports Blazers
[Special to “Northern {Advocate”! AUCKLAND* This Day. A councillor who attended a meeting of the Devonport Borough Council last night in a gay blazer adorned with badges was asked not to do so again. “The rules of this council have provisions regarding the dress to be worn by councillors at meetings,” said Mr. E. Aldridge. “However, we see here tpnight a councillor clad in a gay blazer adorned with badges. I ask whether it would be correct procedure to retain his seat or not.” The Mayor, Mr. H. F. W. Meikle, said that the member referred to was a young one, but it was just as well that his attention had been drawn to the matter of dress, so that he could wear more conventional • attire at meetings in the future. i
