Sail Breezes for Boatmen’s Week-End

are not scratched by barbed wire, or (By "Bowsprit.") bruised in any way. The hair should ■ be glossy and the skin fine, as these! At last the impossible has happenare signs of health. A fine skin is : ed—a week-end with no complaints particularly necessary in a porker pig, shout the weather! as porkers are not singed, and they Whole “sail” breezes and sunshine look a great deal better on the hooks; greeted us and very few boats stayed than they would if the skin is coarse. home, A porker pig should bo well hammed, Week-Ending Yachts, as the leg of pork is very important from a butcher’s point of view. Pigs so pinched, On Sunday the Sea Ace and Ocean hang badly, like a dish cloth, and mar Waif went down as far as Onerahi, the an otherwise good appearance. The former doing a round of the course to animals sffould not have a heavy head enable her skipper to become familiar nr iiiwl n<j tViJa i«s Inwrelv waste, and : with it.

Jeff IT ill had a party dOAvn in the Ngairo, and all enjoyed the outing. The outboard boats had a real Aveekend and could be seen and heal’d all over the harbour.

Fish Plentiful,

Fish seemed fairly plentiful and small sharks were caught from several of the boats. The kingfish are about just now, and many wore caught during the week-end. Most of the launches wore out and quite a number went outside fishing. The hapuka were not so plentiful as they might have been, but good bags of snapper were secured. The Launches, Amongst the launches down were Menaf, Meander, Florence, Jean, Jeunesse, Valencia, Wild Thyme, Rosemary, Huia, Mr Alf Walker’s boat and Mr Matthews’ boat, Mr Fred Reynolds had a trip on the latter craft. No doubt the sale of the Kopuru and as yet no boat to replace her must have been too much for Mr Reynolds to resist on such a good week-end.

Jack Murphy’s Boat. Mr Jack Murpliy’s boat was out and was viewed by many eyes as she has been quite some time in getting recommissioned and speculation has been rife as to speed, etc. By the way she’ paced on Sunday one must imagine her owner to be well satisfied.

Next Week—the Regatta. , Next week-end we have our regatta. All those who are: taking part express a keenness which surpasses last year’s effort. With the enlarged fields, the interest should increase, and in all three sailing events there is a; newcomer.

The A class has Syd Mogford’s WahHco, the B class Angus Henderson’s Sea Ace and the seven-footers have the boat built by young Doug Edwards.

Not only did Doug byild the craft, but he designed her first and then made Ins own sail, which incidentally sots very well and has all the hallmarks of the professional. The whole effort is' very creditable and we wish Doug all the best.. The Saint also has a ngw sail and rudder. However, the old enthusiasm is just as good aS ever, and young Bob is looking for first honours next Monday. The Burning Question. The burning question is: “Will there be any launch race?” At the beginning of the season things looked very promising in this direction, but things have changed now and although launch races are on the programme, we get no entries. Wc still live in hopes and any power boat owner who needs information on the regatta race programme will be able to get it at the meeting being held in the clubroom on Thursday next.
