NORTHLAND TRIBE

"Advocate” Office, Water St- Whangarei, Tuesday, January 10, 1939. Hello Everybody— I'm wondering how you are all managing to keep cool. We’re no*! Headquarters windows and doors are wide open and still we are warm. The Small Person is protesting loudly that it’s too hot even to sleep outdoors. You’ll be glad to know he’s slowly turning over a new leaf and is getting better each day. I really believe he made a New Year resolution after all. Our first/ week of 1939 has been a very interesting ■one for visitors. I've had old friends from the south in to see me and what a time we've spent chattering. I won’t tell you what Kupe said. You can probably guess. ' Our last visitor we put in a box and he's there at present making “leti-me-out” noises. He’ll have to stay put for a while longer though, till we find but more about him. Mysterious, you think? It is rather. He was an uninvited guest, but not a “gate-crasher” as they are called, for he came in the window. He wears a beautiful glossy green coat and striped jersey and “troiisies.” Have you guessed? Yes, he’s a cuckoo, but we haven’t quite decided whether he’s a shining or a long-tailed cuckoo. When we’ve settled that point we’ll set him free to fly off to his friends and relations. He’s had a rest and some food, so although he’s quite young, he should be quite safe. If any of our country Nortfalanders are in town and %vould like to be too, get in touch with Kupe—we’re always glad to see you. Cheerio till next week. ’

Princess, Northland Tribe.
