Children’s Pantomime

A successful children’s pantomime, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” was presented in the Kohukchu Town Hall on Wednesday. The production was in the hands of Mrs Alf Hartley, and the proceeds were in aid of the Kohukohu Tennis Club. The hall was tilled to capacity, and large numbers of people came in from outlying districts. The performance was a credit to the producer and to the children. Many humorous situations arose which were appreciated by both the parents and visitors. Prior to the closing of the school for the Christmas recess, the infant pupils were treated to a Christmas Tree and a visit from Father Christmas. Father Christmas (Rev. John Cable, Anglican Vicar of Hokianga) arrived by car and was greeted by wild excitement from the children. He proceeded to talk to the children of Christmas in various parts of the world from his own experiences, and this pleased his small audience immensely. The distribution of presents started with a present for Mrs Bristow, infant mistress, who had arranged the party, and every child was thrilled with the gift he received. Many parents were present and they enjoyed the interlude as much as the children, for it was an entirely now departure for the Kohukohu School. The Boy Scouts held their last parade of 1938 on Thursday evening. The troop has shown marked progress duryear, and their roll is now 18. The New Year is looked forward to with keen anticipation.
