“All Wool” Must Be All Wool

1 Special to “Northern Advocate:'] WELLINGTON. This Day. “My attention has been drawn to certain goods advertised as ‘All Wools' which on examination have been found to contain a very small percentage of wool," said the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan yesterday. “In the public interest, I consider it desirable to issue a warning that goods offered as ‘All Wool’ should be carefully examined. “I consider that in fairness to the local woollen manufacturers I am justified in issuing ;his warning, as the reputation which woollen manufacturers in New Zealand have established f o r high class woollen goods makes it impossible for these manufacturers t o

compete with garments which contain only a small percentage of woollen yarn. In the particular case which I have in mind, an analysis was made, and it was found that the material j from which the garment was made | comprised approximately 85 per cent, of cotton. “The Sale of Goods Act presumes that the purchaser will exer judgment in the purchase of goods, and ; the rule that the buyer must beware is in law considered adequate safeguard. If, however, goods so offered for sale are not in accordance with the description giveh to them either by advertisement or otherwise, the buyer has the right of action for recovery of the purchase price.”
