Payment For Holidays
iPer Press Association Copyright.] WELLINGTON, This Day.
Holiday provisions in the Factories Amendment Act, 1936, are classified by a section in the Statutes Amende ment Bill, read a first time dn the House of Representatives yesterday. The Act of 1936 provided for paid holidays for factory workers on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Easter Mom day, Anzac Day, Labour Day and the Ring’s Birthday. In the case of all these’ holidays, with the exception ot Anzac Day, Labour Day and the King’s Birthday, it was provided that holiday pay would be to all factory workers employed in a factory at any time during the preceding fortnight, while the provision for the other three days was that payment should be made to worker em-' ployed within four days of the holiday.
Section Repealed. These portions of the Act are to be repealed, and the new provision is that payment of wages for all holidays will be made to factory workers employed in a factory at any time during the fortnight ending on the day on which the holiday occurs. If a factory worker has been employed by more than one person during the fortnight he will be entitled to receive holiday pay from several employers, in proportions to be determined by the Inspector of Factories. An additional provision is that employment of casual workers merely for the purpose of baking or preparing for baking any article of food required for sale for human consumption to meet the public demand resulting from the observance of any of the holidays, will not constitute a case for payment of holiday wages.
