Negotiations Broken Off

(Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, September 7. A Sudeten statement issued at Pragu6, declares:—

<1) The party has decided to continue negotiations with the Government with a view to a realisation of the Karlsbad points.

(2) Both internal discussions and negotiations were broken off because of recent incidents, showing that the Government insufficiently* controls the situation to begin to conclude discussions on peace. One incident involved the death of a prominent Sudeten.

After the statement, negotiations were broken off, of which Viscount Runciman was informed by a delegation'.headed by the extremist, Herr Franck. , >

P.n earlier official Sudeten report stated; “After necessary clarifica tlaris are obtained, the Sudeten party will examine the proposals, and submit. them to competent Sudeten authorities. 'llicrE is no truth in the report that the British Mission has submitted special proposals.” Farther Consideration. Herr Kundt is en route to Nuremberg, it is believed, with the Czech ■ L l -. ■ • ■ v-. - (*■ ' ■ Dr. Hodza, Czech Prime Minister, handed the Czech plan to Herr Kundt with an accompanying note, the terms of which have not been disclosed.

Reuter’s Nuremberg correspondent says German circles reveal that the Czech plan does not provide for Sudeten control of police and post offices in their territory. Further, the Czechs 'are only prepared to withdraw Czech officials from Sudeten areas gradually over a number of years. Therefore, the plan is unacceptable as it stands.

The Pr'ague correspondent of Reuter’s, says it is expected that Herr Kundt today, when he saw Dr. Hodza, would arrange a date for the resumption of negotiations. It was generally believed that the Sudeten party would accept the plan as a basis for negotiation. None of the details were published locally. It is thought the negotiations will be laborious.

The fixing of the Sudeten Congress for. October 15 is regarded as a warning to expect a settlement by then.
