“Blow-Out” Cuts Off Power
[Per Press Association. Copyright.] WELLINGTON, This Day.
Tramcars, trains, lifts and all services relying on direct electric current were halted in Wellington yesterday for several minutes shortly after 1.39 o’clock, and again a few minutes later. As happened a week or two ago, a fault far away up the line in the Urewera country temporarily cut off electric power supply in Wellington. The source of yesterday’s trouble was a blowout of an 11,000-volt brush at the Tuai electric power station, Waikaremoana. The blowout caused a surge of power throughout the interlinked systems of the North Island, and m Wellington it had the effect of cutting out rotary condensers, and shutting off direct power. The services were soon resumed, but a quarter of an hour later there was another interruption for a slightly longer period.
