General Strike Menace
SYDNEY, August 30. All the coal mines in New South Wales were idle today for the aggravate meetings of the men to determine whether a general strike should be precipitated in accordance with the decision of the recent convention. Complete authority was given the miners’ leaders to declare a strike if necessary. Mr William Orr, general secretary of the Miners’ Federation, addressed the miners at Curri, and said the mineowners’ stocks of coal would last only weeks, not months, as was claimed. Reports from Queensland, Victoria, and Tasmania state that the miners endorsed the proposal fo* a general strike..
