High School Wants Assembly Hall

Endeavours are to be made by the Whangarei High School Board to raise funds for the erection of a school assembly hall in 1940, to coincide with the Centennial celebrations.

At a meeting of the board last night the headmaster, Mr A. R. Ryder, reported that the school intended raising funds for this purpose, and requested the board’s approval of the project. The concert fund at the school said Mr Ryder, stood at £2OO, but it was felt that, with a concerted effort during the next few years, it would be possible to raise the £IOOO needed to obtain the Government subsidy of £2OOO. With this object in view it was intended to hold a school fete next term.

Board members were whole-heart-ecJly in support of the suggestion put forward by the headmaster, and it was decided to seek the co-operation of the Parents’ Association, the Old Pupils’ Association and public support to make the venture a success. The board placed on record its appreciation of the school’s offer to assist in the matter.
