Facts Must Be Faced
(Received 12.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Mr J. R. Sutcliffe, B.Sc., ■ formerly Principal of Scots College, Wellington, and the new head of the Melbourne Grammar School, was the guest of honour at a social at the school arranged by the old Melbournians’ Association. He said that in New Zealand he attached great importance to proper physical training. He was glad to see a strong cadet detachment at the school. “No one is anxious,” he added, “to train boys for war, but it is difficult to avoid the fact that we live in a world full of jealous neighbours at a time when the spirit of brotherly love seems forgotten.” Hiding rifles from schoolboys was no more going to stop war than hiding umbrellas was going to stop rain.
