The extent of the damage to the Harbour Board’s tug Te Awhina, now on the board’s slipway, was revealed when the vessel was brought to rest on the slip shortly before 10 o’clock this morning. It was then seen that part of the tug had been struck several times apparently by the starboard propeller of the Federal Line’s Essex, which the Te Awhina had been shepherding into the berth when the accident happened. The injector pipe on the port side had been stove in, and slightly aft of that the plate had been sliced. Further aft again, the plate had been badly dented by another blow, but no puncture made. Considerable damage has probably been caused throughout the vessel by the sea water, and a complete overhaul will have to be made. It is estimated by Mr. D.
