Cabled News From Hankow

The following cablegram from Hankow was received by the Chinese Consul:—
’‘The international air liner which was attacked and forced- down by the Japanese and sank in the river has been salvaged. It showed innumerable bullet holes.
“The bodies of 10 passengers, including two noted Chinese bankers were recovered. All the bodies were riddled with bullets.
“The enemy, in an .attack on Jiuchang, used poison gas, causing losses among our troops. We took up a new line north-west of Jiuchang, on the hills west of this city. “Severe fighting, which has been to our advantage, is continuing at these two places. “Three hundred Japanese at Niuweitun were, surrounded, and annihilated after three days’ fighting. “The enemy from Hopei is threatening Loan, but the advance is checked until after the arrival of reinforcements.”
