Northland’s Claims Stressed By Forest Society
When Mr C. R. Lovatt and Mr J. D, Mitchell were appointed to represent the North Auckland Forest Society at the Northland conference at Kaikohe, considerable discussion ensued at the Forest Society’s meeting last night. It was stressed that the first thing required should! be to press for provincial status for Northland. The meeting was unanimous in the view that many advantages would accure. The delegates were instructed accordingly.
So far as the Centennial celebrations were concerned, it was felt that these ■ should* be centred at Waitangi. “This,” said Mr Mitchell, “is the cradle of the nation. We. have there the generous gift of Lord Bledisloe, and the scene has all the traditional background of early New Zealand.
The society was of the opinion that no effort should be spared to impress upon the authorities the just claims of Northland so far as the Centennial celebrations were concerned.
