Northland’s Big Conference
THE meeting of representatives of the local bodies and other organisations of Northland, to take place at Kaikohe on Thursday, promises to be one of the most important conferences ever held in the North. It will certainly be the most widely represented. Not only will the local bodies be present, tout the chambers of commerce, A. and P. societies, Women's Institutes, Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, school committees, church organisations, the native race, and the local members of Parliament will be represented. The purpose of the conference is to receive and deal with a report to be presented by the committee set up to consider matters concerning Centennial celebrations in Northland. The report is a comprehensive one, embracing recommendations regarding the representation of the province at the Centennial Exhibition, the commemoration of important occasions in the early history of the province, and the celebration of matters of local interest, all of which, it is suggested, should be co-ordinated with similar functions throughout the rest of the Dominion. Part of the time of Thursday’s conference will be taken up in witnessing the screening of a moving film of Northland, This will give a faithful representation of the scenic attractions, industrial activities, and general conditions in the territory, and will provide material for consideration by those to whom will be entrusted the organising and carrying out of the various centennial functions.
