Echo Of Atta Taxi Sensation

SYDNEY. August 29

At the Central Police Court to-day, Arthur Sticldngs, alias Peter Fisher, aged 31, a seaman, and former taxidriver, was remanded in the custody of Detective H, A. Wilson to appear at Auckland on a warrant charging that, while armed with a shotgun, at Auckland on August 8,. he robbed Frank Pickering of £219/9/-, the property of the Atta Taxi Company. Detective-Sergeant Boswell said he arrested Stickings on August 15 on a provisional warrant. Accused said he was Stickings, alias Fisher, and was the person named in the provisional warrant, adding: “I am the man. but you are a day late."

Accused—slim. dark, young-looking and well-dressed in brown—appeared to take little interest in the proceedings, and offered no objections when the magistrate. Mr Sheridan, granted the application for an extradition order.

On further charges against accused of having hud at his possession £ll 4.91, reasonably suspected of having been stolen, and of being a prohibited immigrant, the police prosecutor offered no evidence. He said that in view of the extradition order, the immigration officers had no desire to proceed further with that matter. Both charges were withdrawn.
