Mairtown Tennis Club’s Favourable Prospects
Bright prospects for J 1)38-3!) wore anticipated at. the annual meeting of the Mairtown Tennis Club last evening. A successful season was reviewed, and the club’s balance-sheet showed that there was a credit of £SO. There was a fair attendance of members, over which the president. Mr. A. D. King, presided. The various competitions were stated to have been wen during the past season as follows: Ladies' singles championship: Mrs. D. Saul; ladies’ doubles,; Mrs. Saul and Mrs. Hoskins men’s singles championship: Mr. C. Chitty; men's doubles: Messrs Chitty and Rarity; combined doubles; Mrs. Saul and J. Birchall. Officers Elected. Officers were elected as follows; Patron, Mr. H. C. Rishworth; president, Mr. A. D. King; vice-presidents, Messrs Coulthard, W. Connan and J. Batchelor; secretary. Mr. E. Fairley; treasurer, Mr. T. Burton; club captain, Mr. J. Rarity; vioe-captain, Mr. K. McAuliffe; committee, Mrs. Saul and Messrs J. Sissons, W. Connan, L. Martin, L. Porteous, R. McAuliffe, L. Wilkinson and J. Morrison; social committee, Messrs Porteous, Sissons, Harrison, Wilkinson, King and Birchall; match committee, Mrs Saul, Messrs Connan and Sissons; delegates to North Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs Rarity and McAuliffe.
General Business,
The opening day was fixed for Saturday, September 17. There was some discussion upon the selection of teams, and a motion was placed befoi’e the meeting that teams should be selected strictly from the ladder. However, an amendment, that selection should be left to the discretion of the match committee, was carried.
