Heavy Gale At Kaikohe
The easterly weather which has been threatening for several days broke over the week-end in the Kaikohe district, accompanied by torrential rain and wind which during Saturday night, at times, reached almost hurricane velocity. Residents in the town were somewhat alarmed at the force of the gale, which caused even the sturdiest of buildings to rock. General surprise was expressed that, except for several trees being blown down, no material damage was in evidence on Sunday morning. In some districts main roads were blocked by flood waters, which, however, soon subsided and traffic was able to get through on Sunday afternoon. All sports over the week-end were postponed.
