Good Sale at Wellsford

At the Wellsford sale, conducted by the North Auckland Farmers’ Cooperative Ltd., dairy cattle of all classes were yarded in large numbers. Good quality heifers and cows sold well, but poor quality and backward stock realised poorer prices. The usual yarding of boner cows was taken by Auckland exporters at current values. Springing Jersey heifers close to profit made £7/5/- to £ll 5/-; backward Jersey heifers, £5/12/6 to £6/10/-; empty Jersey heifers, £3 7/6; yearling Jersey heifers, £2/10/-; Jersey cows close to profit, £3/10/- to £6/5/-; poor and backward Jersey cows, £2/10/- to £3/5/-; Shorthorn cows in calf to Shorthorn or Hereford bull, £5/5/- to £7/2/6; Friesian cows in calf to Hereford bull, £3/7/6 to £4 15/-; empty Shorthorn store cows, £3 2/6 to £3/40/-; killable Shorthorn cows, £4/2/6; Shorthorn cow with big Shorthorn calf, £5/19/-; Shorthorn heifers in calf to Jersey bull, £4/10/-; boner cows, £l/15/- to £2/15/-; backward crossbred dairy heifers, £3/15/-; crossbred dairy cows, £4/10/- to £6 15/-; cull cows, 25/- to 30/-; ewe hoggets, 18/6 to 21/-.
