Deluge Causes Slips in Wellington

Heavy rain was experienced in Wellington late last night. 2.41 inches being registered, most of it between 11 p.m. and 1.30 a.m. Coming on top ol the soaking the hills have received for some weeks past, the downpour resulted in slips, washouts and flooding to an extent beyond the experience of the younger generation of Wellington citizens. Slips occurred in nearly every part of the city and suburbs, some of them across the tram lines. One, in Ngaio Gorge, stopped early morning motor traffic.
