Four Killed When Bomber Crashes Into Cliff
MELBOURNE. August 10. Four members of the Royal Australian Air Force were killed this morning when, during a dense log. an AvroAmcn bomber crashed into the eastern cliff at Port Phillip Bay. near Dromana. The bodies were Hung in all directions. and the aeroplane was smashed to matchwood. The Dead. Pilot-Officer R. Symonds. Sergeant-Pilot J. Gillespie, Aircraftsman K, McKerrow. Aircraftsman K. Mawson.
A fifth occupants. Aircraftsman J. Glover, escaped with cuts, abrasions and severe shock. Residents heard the machine, which apparently was lost, seeking a landing, and the crash was heard a considerable distance. The machine struck the headland about ;iOO loot from the lop, where there is n dense forest with tall trees.
