Presbyterian Church’s Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the congregation of the Presbyterian Church was held last evening. The Rev. W. Elliott presided, and there was a good attendance. The reports of the various organisations of the church showed that good work had been done during the year. Twenty-eight names had been added to the roll, which now stood at 239. At the main Sunday School there were 167 scholars, of whom 47 were in the kindergarten. The P.M.U. had had a busy year, and the Bible Classes, Fellowship, Social Club, Boys’ Brigade, Girls’ Life Brigade, Busy Bees and others had met regularly and done very useful work. After discussion, the various reports were adopted, an optimistic note being struck when the prospects for the coming year were surveyed.

Vacancies on the board of managers were filled by the election of Messrs L. Wright, A. Crawford, H. A. Brugh, W. McLeod, M. McLeod and F. L. Izod. & :

Mr J. Doel was appointed auditor.

Mrs Inkster and Mrs Ching were appointed collectors for the' Sustentation Fund, and Mrs Sharman was placed in charge of sub-committees to look after property in the hall. She was .also appointed liaison officer between the congregation and brides who had been married in the church. It was resolved to make an annual picnic a feature of the congregational year.

The matter of making, provision for the painting of the interior of the cliurch and the hall, as well as the provision of other improvements, was referred to the board of managers for favourable consideration.

During the evening, Mr Elliott spoke of the appointment of Mr Albert Dobson as organist and choirmaster, and extended a hearty welcome to him.

It was reported that preliminary steps in connection with the church’s contribution to the Centennial Fund which is being raised by the Presbyterian Church throughout New Zealand, were very gratifying, the sum of £156 being already in hand.

Thanks were extended to all workers, .and a special tribute was paid to the pastor and Mrs Elliott.
