Amusements

A large house in the Regent Theatre I last night greeted one of the most c*n--1 tertalning programmes seen in Wha--1 ngarei for some time. Old favourites wore the feature of I lie programme, Robert Taylor and Loretta Young i being the principal attractions in a first-class comedy drama, "Private Number.” Robert Taylor displays his best talent in this gay romance, as the son of a rich family, in, whose employ is a maid-servant. Loretta Young. The plot thickens with the family's reactions to the love affair between Taylor and the maid. Love wins in the end, and son-and-heir becomes the husband of the former maidservant. Taylor goes back to University, and, in his absence, the family, resenting | his marriage, ejects his wife. Dilli- ' cullies arise over the care of her son. i who is kept from his mother. The : climax of the picture is a powerful S court scene in which Robert Taylor j and I-orettH Young are again united. Throughout (he picture there runs a vein uf hilarious humour, which, added to the unfailing attraction of the two stars, makes the picture a first-class performance. Those who have seen these two stars together before will relish this opportunity of i seeing the screen's favourite partners | together again. The second big fca- ! lure is a rollicking comedy, "Wake jUp And Live” starring a bevy of I popular actors, including Patsy Kelly, i Alice Fay and Waller Winchcll.
