Moderate Sales On 'Change
[Special to ’'Northern Advocate."] AUCKLAND, This Day. A slight improvement in turnover was recorded at the last Call of the Stock Exchange yesterday, and this morning a moderate list of sales was finalised at the first Call, In the banking section, firmness in Commercials was the chief feature, with buyers at 17/ and sellers 3d higher. New Zealands were steady between 33/2 and 43/5. There was again an active market for Government stocks at the lower level recently ruling, and three sales were put through in this class, as well as la parcel of Hamilton Borough Council debentures. Amongst Australian issues, an addition to official listings Was the preference issue of Imperial Chemicals (Australia and New Zealand), which had a reported sale at 22/, with more •available at that figure; buyers 3d below. Goulsbro looked slightly firmer with quotations from 29/ to 30/, and Broken Hill Proprietary improved with a market between 59/6 and 60/.’ 1 i
Miscellaneous New Zealand securities showed only minor alterations in values.
Sales completed at the noon call today included; National Bank, £2 12/3; Dominion Breweries, £1 14/6; Broken Hill Proprietary, £2 19/9; Mort’s Dock, 13/6; Mt. Morgan, 10/6; Hamilton Borough Council, 1-7-60, 4§, £lO3 10/; ML Albert Borough Council, 1-7-67, 4i, £lO4. Wellington Harbour Board, 28-2-40, £lO2.
The United States and British Governments have agreed to set up a regime for use in common at Canton and Enderbury Islands, and for the employment of these islands for purposes connected with international aviation and communication, with equal facilities for ekch party. Details will be determined in notes to be exchanged between the Two Governments. Agents-General will meet next Monday in London to consider the insistence of the recognition of State rights by Whitehall, which, it is considered, scarcely recognises them, and deals exclusively with the Commonwealth.
