Fresh Soviet Troops Launch Attack

(Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 9. To-day Russian infantry attack on the Korean frontier was carried out by fresh Soviet troops from Novokievsk, possibly under General Bluchers direction. They advanced to positions 500 and 1000 yards from the Japanese lines. The Japanese admit that an air force three times its' normal peace dimensions has been concentrated at the Soviet base at Romanovka, while large forces of Soviet infantry, guns and horses are assembling near Hansh, on the south-western shore of Possiet Bay, with 50 tanks. This seems to indicate that, whatever diplomatic conversations may dictate, local feelings are so exasperated that the Russian troops on the spot are prepared to fight to a finish with or without official Soviet backing.

Bodies of 1000 Soviet troops were found in front of the Japanese positions in the Changkufeng, Shatsaoping and Shiliufeng hills after four days of fighting, says a Tokio message. Forests were set on fire at Keiko and I Seikaku, in Korea, as a result of 4 bombing. I
