Waikiekie Beat Otamatea
With a view to keeping fit, the Waikiokic team travelled to Paparoa and defeated an Otamatea junior rep. side by 21 points to nil. Apart from the new players which the club hopes to chalk up for the Whangarei representatives. the team contained four representatives (J. Davidson, C. Leech, P. Leech and E. Pamplin), the latter two' having played for Otamatea union also.
Assisted by weight from his forwards, Jim Davidson had a monopoly of the ball from set scrums.
E. Pamplin, last year’s senior B representative. moved into half for the day, and gave a sterling; exhibition.
M. Lane, playing on the wing,, collected two good tries, his last being scored from a kick-off. The ball travelled from Pamplin to Leech, to Russek, to the winger, who covered jhe last 25 yards unopposed to score under the posts.
Good games were played in the for-, wards by the Russek brothers and K .i Babe, who were always on the ball. In the backs, the Waikiekie players proved too- speedy for the opposition.
