Divorce Actions

\Special to “Northern Advocate.’’] AUCKLAND, This Day. At the Supreme Court yesterday, 13 undefended petitions for divorce were heard before Mr Justice Callan. In the majority of cases decrees nisi, to become effective after three months, were granted. A petition was brought by Gladys Evelyn Spencer (Mr Webb) against Frederick Spencer, on the grounds of an agreement to separate. Petitioner was married in 1923 in Whangarei. She said that owing to disagreement the respondent left her in 1934. Respondent was born in the United States. Petitioner said she did not know when he came to New Zealand. She had known him for two years before their marriage. To His Honour, petitioner said that the respondent had talked about going back to the States many times. Ho used to speak of America as his home, and say that he did not feel settled in the Dominion. He was still in New Zealand. His Honour: I am afraid this does not establish New Zealand domicile. Counsel: I am afraid not. After hearing further evidence, His Honour said he would stand the application down. At the same time, he would add that the application seemed hopeless.

The two boys who stowed away aboard the Monterey on her voyage from Sydney to Auckland on July 22, Campbell McArthur and Costa Lianos, disembarked from the Mariposa on her arrival from Auckland this morning, and after official warnings, were handed over to their parents, with whom they had a happy reunion.
