Variety Of Goods Handled Through Port

From "bacon” to "wine,” in alphabetical order, lie many household provisions. Among those imported through the Whangarei Harbour Board during June were barley, beans and peas, chaff, hay and straw, cheese, coal, coke, flour, fruit, honey, milk products, oat products, pollard and bran, potatoes, seeds, sugar and wheat. In addition, stocks of farmers’ requirements, including lime, livestock, manures and motor spirit were handled through the board. Several tons of softwood and hardwood timber made up the tally for the month, with the addition of a mysterious “all other goods" accounting for a substantial 1406 tons. At yesterday’s meeting of lire board, it was reported that the grand total of imports for the month was 4322-v tons, as compared with 3427:1 tons for June. 1937. Board's Finances. Exports ranged from "butter" to "wool," and were mainly cement, coal, fruit (fresh), hides, kauri gum, lime, livestock, milk products, skins, tallow and timber softwoods. “All other goods” accounted for 210 tons of outward cargo. In all, exports for the month tallied 10,110"; tons, as compared with 9285£ tons for Junp last year. Vessels entering the port numbered 74, the total registered tonnage being 12,351 tons. In June, 1937, 59 vessels, with an aggregate of 10,215 tons, came into the port. Cash received for June totalled £1293 7/1, while reimbursements (lab'our and toll calls), totalling,£l 17/10, made the total £1295 4/11. Receipts .for June, 1937. totalled £716 C/3, The bank balance on current account at July 14 was £1674 5/10, and the fixed deposit balance -was £3521.
