Alleged Fraud
[Per Press Association. Copyright.] WELLINGTON, This Day. A number of advertisements stating that a trainee was required for the position of serviceman with a refrigerating company led to the appearance in the Magistrate’s Court at Wellington yesterday of Frederick Joseph Huddleston, alias Oppenheim, alias Lawbatchewesky, aged 31 accountant, who faced six charges of false pretence, and one, of attempting false pretence. Huddleston pleaded not guilty and was committed by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was not allowed. Accused was charged that, on or about June 9, with intent to defraud, he obtained £5 by falsely representing that by taking a course in refrigeration and air conditioning at a cost of £2O, the man would be guaranteed employment with a company called National Air Conditioner Ltd, said to be operating .4 workshop at Hamilton. Huddleston was also charged that, with intent to defraud, he obtained sums of i money from five other persons, and that he attempted to obtain £2O from another.
