All Blacks Winning Way

(Received 10 am.) NEWCASTLE, July 27. The All Blacks continued their winning way by easily defeating Newcastle, at the Sportsground this afternoon, by 39 points to 16. Only five members of the team that convincingly defeated Australia in the first test match last Saturday played for the All Blacks. They were Mitchell, the brilliant centre three-quarter and captain, Phillips, winger, and three forwards—George, Milliken and Bowman. The All Blacks started at a great pace, Wesney kicking a goal in the first minute, and 10 points were up in 10 minutes. With play in Newcastle’s half for most of the time, the All Blacks had a lead to 21 points to five at half-time. The All Blacks always had something in hand, and ran out easy winners in spite of plucky tackling by Newcastle and fair success in spoiling tactics. Griffiths and Hooper were outstanding for the All Blacks, and Wright scored four tries. A feature of the visitors’ play was the speed and accuracy of thelir short passing, which was pretty to watch. Tries for the All Blacks were scored by Wright (4), Hooper (2), Carson and Milliken. Griffiths converted four tries, and Wesney kicked a penalty goal and a field goal. Newcastle’s points came from tries by Steer and Brown. The latter converted both and kicked two penalty goals.
