“Some Consolation,” Says Jap. Minister
(Received 11.30 a.m.) TOKIO. July 27. “We doubt whether the extent cf the proposals for the Japanese to colonise or develop Australia or New Zealand is favoured there,” said the Foreign Office spokesman, Mr Kawai, “but we understand that many Australians are beginning to advocate a fairer chance for our trade, at least, even if they are not welcoming our people. ’lt seems, therefore, that reaction is coming to the unjust criticisms of our striving to secure national safety and progress, which is some consolation.”
