Germans Welcome Lord Runcima As Czech Mediator
(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, July 27. THE SUDETEN GERMAN PARTY WELCOMES VISCOUNT RUNCIMAN A S MEDIATOR, AND PROMISES DETAILED INFORMATION AS TO ITS AIM, WITH A VIEW TO ARRIV ING AT A SATISFACTORY SETTLEMENT, SAYS A MESSAGE FROM PRAGUE. The Berlin press welcpmos Lord Runciman with enthusiasm, as being likely to assist Herr Henlein. Field-Marshal Goering’s newspaper, the “National Zeitung,” says: Mr Chamberlain undoubtedly wishes to stake his whole personal influence, and the British Empire’s prestige, on the finding of a solution of the Czech question. The British attitude in this matter will determine whether his far-reaching intentions —a general European appeasement—will be fulfilled.

I Dr. Gcebbel’s paper, “Der Angriff." says: “Lord Runciman may count on Germany’s good wishes, but the Czechs are an obdurate and untrustworthy people in negotiation, and possibly far stronger pressure may be needed to compel the Prague Government to make the concessions which have now become inevitable.”
