Mr E. A. Jones, assistant general manager of the Vacuum Oil'Company, Ltd., in New Zealand, left Auckland by the Monterey on a three months’ business visit to New York. During his absence, his place will be taken by Mr R. Martin, the company’s manager at Auckland. Mr L. W. Nelson was last night appointed a life member of the Whangarei Racing Club. Speaking at the annual meeting of the club, the president, Mr R. G. Hosking, remarked on the fine work Mr Nelson had done for the racing world. He had occupied some of the highest positions, being Auckland representative on the Racing Conference, and being regarded as an expert on racing matters. In Mr Hosking’s opinion the club could bestow on Mr Nelson no higher honour than that of life membership.
Professor R. M. Algie, organiser of the Auckland Provincial Freedom Association, having concluded a lecture tour fn and Otamatea counties, left at 8 o’clock this morning on his return to Auckland.
Mr T. Ramsbottom, who has been stationmaster at Whangarei railway station for the past nine years, has been transferred to a similar position at Otahuhu. The vacancy will be filled by Mr M. Curran, at present stationmaster at Tauranga.
