Easier Prices At Addington
[Per Press Association. Copyright.l CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. j There were exceptionally heavy entries at yesterday’s Addington market, and prices eased as a consequence. The Grand National market will be held next week, and it is not unusual for heavy entries to come forward at the preceding sale. The day was cold and wet for the seventh Wednesday, and this did not improve the appearance of the stock or the attendance of buyers. Of the store sheep entry of about 700 head, little more than half were sold. The only price of note was 20/4 for forward two-tooth wethers. The fat sheep penning was the heaviest for some years, approximating 7500 head. A small proportion of prime j sheep sold at about 1/ a head cheaper, but light wethers were down by 2/6 a head and light ewes by 3/, or about 4/ a head below export rates six weeks ago. There were heavy passings in the later stages of the market. Prime wethers sold at from 30/ to 32/6; good, 27/ to 29/; light, down to 21/. Best ewes made up to 21/; tops, to 23/10; medium prime, 15/ to 17/; light, 8/ to 10/. A total of 585 fat cattle were penned, a big proportion of prime steers being included. These sold at fully i 20/ a head cheaper. Good heifers and i cows sold at prices that were little j changed. Good beef sold ar t from 32/ to 33/ per 1001 b. A few tops j made to 35/; medium, 29/ to 31/6. j In the fat pig entries there was a j keen sale for pork, which made from ! 7£d to BJd, and in cases to B|d, the
highest price for a long time. Porkers sold from £2 1/6 to £3 7/6; choppers, £2 16/ to £6 11/; baconers, £3 9/6 to £5 9/6; average price per lb, (J|d to 7‘d.
